MIK stands for "Melodies of Istria and Kvarner". Each year the festival acts as guest in towns of Istria and Kvarner, the regions that cover three different counites in the west part of Croatia. It is a festival based on ethnic music of place which it takes part in, i.e. the music which root is in the so-called "Istrian scale", maybe one of the most interesting music pheomena in the world. The songs only touch the elements of such a characteristic tune in a fluent and pleasent way.
MIK je kratica od Melodije Istre i Kvarnera. Festival svake godine gostuje po gradovima Istre i Kvarnera, područja koje pokrivaju tri županije na zapadnom dijelu Hrvatske.
To je festival koji je temeljen na etno glazbi kraja u kojem se odvija i to glazbi kojoj je osnova takozvana "istarska ljestvica", jedno od možda najinteresantnijih glazbenih pojava u svijetu. Pjesme tek dodiruju elemente tog toliko karakterističnog melosa na pitak i dopadljiv način.
Ukupno s ovom godinom MIK je vjerojatno svjetski rekorder po broju festivalskih večeri: čak 414! Nekada je znao gostovati i u manjim mjestima, koja su davala posebnu čar MIK-u. U današnje vrijeme tipičan primjer nekadašnjeg MIK-a je Općina Gračišće.
Sve nagrade su potvrda uspješnosti. Nagrade struke svi pravi profesionalci priželjkuju prije svega zbog svoje reputacije i potvrde kvalitete, no publika najviše pamti prve nagrade publike.
Rekorder osvojenih prvih mjesta publike na MIK-u je Toni Kljaković. Čak je sedam puta osvojio najviše glasova publike.
MIK e' l' abbreviazione di Melodie dell' Istria e del Kvarner (Quarnero). Il festival e' ogni anno ospite delle citta' dell' Istria e del Quarnero, area ricoperta da tre Contee della parte occidentale della Croazia, lungo il litorale settentrionale dell' azzuro mare Adriatico. Questo e' un festival basato sull` etno musica della regione nella quale ha luogo, ed a cui musica e' fondamento la cosidetta "scala istriana", uno dei fenomeni forse piu' interessanti al mondo. Le canzoni sfiorano appena gli elementi del tanto caratteristico melos, in un modo accettabile e gradevole.
